JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Give the green light for St. Paddy’s fun

THIS WEEK, WE have several reasons to celebrate: the wearin’ o’ the green, the first day of spring, getting through the first week of daylight saving time.

Whatever the reason, you’ll find the right place to celebrate on the Peninsula among the following suggestions.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, the country jam is hosted by Jerry Robinson with Terry Roszatycki, Jim Rosand and Les Wamboldt from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

■ Today, the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, features multi-instrumentalist Ches Ferguson from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first timers free.

■ On Friday and Saturday at Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday, Eggplant performs at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., at 8 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Twisted Roots performs at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Gerald Braude performs acoustic jazz from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesday at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Trevor and Sam begin a three-day St. Patrick’s celebration from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, Tanga brings a Latin beat to dance night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Band members include Mike Fujita, guitar; Ed Donahue, trumpet; Jim Rosand, keyboards; Tom Svornich, drums; and Kevin MacCartney on sax, flute, congas and EWI (electric wind instrument).

On Friday, dance to the Joey James Dean Band from 8 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday, 3 Miles High performs a combination of Irish and Top 40 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, Dana Osborn brings his mix of Celtic and classic rock dance from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ Today at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., Mercy Crow draws from folk, jazz and bluegrass at 7:30 p.m. Cover by donation.

On Friday, Grammy Award winners Tingstad and Rumbel play Americana music at 7 p.m.; $16 advance; $18 at door.

On Saturday, the Blue Holiday Band performs blues, roots and rock at 7:30 p.m. $5 to $8 sliding-scale cover.

On Sunday, two events celebrate St. Patrick’s Day:

At 3 p.m., Mary Jane Lamond and Wendy MacIsaac, whose album “Seinn” was listed on NPR’s 2012 top 10, perform. $15 cover.

At 6 p.m., the traditional open mic takes over. $5 cover.

On Wednesday, acoustic bluesman Doug MacLeod performs at 7:30 p.m. $10 cover.

■ On Friday, Washington Blues Society “Best of 2012” winners Brian Lee and the Orbiters will blast blues at the Olympic Peninsula Dance at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., from 8 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. Adults, $15; students with ID and disabled, $10.

■ On Saturday, Serenity performs at Dry Creek Grange, 3130 W. Edgewood Drive west of Port Angeles, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Sunday, the grange hosts a St. Patrick’s Day Dance at 6 p.m., with music from High Country. A potluck precedes the meal at 5 p.m.

■ On Saturday, the Quim­per Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, hosts the Third Saturday Quimper Grange Square Dance and Social with the Last Chance String Band and guest banjoist Katya Kirsch at 7:30 p.m. $5, adults; 16 and younger, free.
