JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Let music move you, body and soul

FOOTBALL SEASON IS over, and Punxsutawney Phil says spring is just six weeks away, so you know what that means: Live music and dance season is in full swing.

So get out there and take advantage of the myriad opportunities in the following listings.

You, body and soul, will be very happy that you did.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, sing and pick country-style at the jam hosted this week by Country Gold members Phil Adams and Terry Roszatycki, and featuring Jim Rosand on the keyboard, performing classic country and rock ’n’ roll from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Bruce Coughlin and Nolan Murray of Tillers Folly perform Americana, roots and Celtic in a special kidney-replacement party for Karen Fields from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ Today at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, multi-instrumentalist Ches Ferguson returns from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Seattle bluesman BluMeadows and his buds bring rocking blues from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ On Friday at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., it’s 2FAR (2nd Friday Art Rock) time again, and SuperTrees returns with their high-energy, rhythm-driven rock ’n’ roll rattling the rafters at 8 p.m. John Gussman and Phantom Jeffie are the artists in residence. $3 cover.

On Monday, Justin Scott Rivet goes solo from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday, Eggplant will be at the Barhop Brewery, 224 W. Railroad Ave., at 9 p.m. Parking is in the back during waterfront construction.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country play at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, join in the fun with Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw band with special guest barbershop quartet NBR (no batteries required) from 6 p.m. 8 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Friday and Saturday at Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday, Hawaii Amor will provide Hawaiian and solo love songs with ukulele accompaniment at Elliott’s Antique Emporium, 135 E. First St., from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Forks

■ On Saturday, watch out for Loose Gravel at Peninsula College’s Forks Extension site, 71 S. Forks Ave., as they perform their high-energy, down-home music in a free concert at 7 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., start your Fat Tuesday celebration early with the Dixieland jazz of the Dukes of Dabob at 5:30 p.m. Don’t forget your parasols.

On Saturday, dance to the classic tunes of the Olympic Express Big Band from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Final Approach lands with boomer music from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesday at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, enjoy the music of Locos Only from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Today is variety night in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, starting at 6 p.m. with High Country — featuring Rusty, Duke and Jerry — followed by Ramblin’ Maggie at 7:15 p.m., with Puyallup’s Classic Case and its top 40 and classic rock finishing out the evening.

On Friday, mix up your dancing with the old and new dance music of Chasing Mona from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Port Townsend

■ Today at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., there are two acts for the price of one if you want: classic folk by Shady Grove, followed by the satire and award-winning songs of Mike Murray and Jack Reid from 7 p.m. $5 voluntary donation.

On Friday, rock/blues legend Alice Stuart and the Formerlys, a trailblazer for women in rock ’n’ roll during the 1970s, performs at 8 p.m. $14 cover.

On Saturday, George Rezendes opens for chanteuse Lauren Sheehan with Mark Graham at 7:30 p.m. Sliding-scale cover of $5 to $10.

On Wednesday, Mark Growden returns with roots and world music at 7:30 p.m. Sliding-scale cover of $8 to $20.

■ On Thursday and Friday, Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, 431 Water St., from noon till 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday, put on your dancing shoes and come to the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend.

From North Carolina comes well-known caller Fred Park, with lively music by Ruthie Dornfeld and friends.

Everyone is welcome. Just be prepared to dance a lot, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The fee will be on a sliding scale of $6 to $12, $3 for those 3 to 18 years old, with younger than 3 free.
