PORT ANGELES — The Johnson family of the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe will present “Brick Johnson Totem Pole: The History and the Journey of Restoration” at Peninsula College’s Studium Generale program at 12:35 p.m. Thursday.
The program will be in the Little Theater at the college at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
A reception for the family will follow immediately in the Peninsula College Longhouse.
Community members are invited to attend both events, which are free of charge.
In the early 1970s, Peninsula College Trustee Harris “Brick” Johnson, who served from 1968 to 1978, gave the college a cedar totem pole he had carved.
It was placed in front of the original Maier Hall building, named for the college’s first president.
A few years ago, it was removed for the construction of the new Maier Hall and returned to the family for restoration.
Since then, Brick Johnson’s nephew, Terry Johnson, has led the effort to prepare the pole for its second raising on the Port Angeles campus.
The totem pole will be returned April 29, when the Brick Johnson Totem Pole rededication ceremony will be hosted by the Johnson family.
