JOYCE – About 530 customers of the Clallam County Public Utility District lost electricity for more than 13 hours early Friday morning.
And Joyce-area customers were scheduled to lose power again at midnight Saturday for six hours.
The PUD had notified its Joyce-area customers by mail weeks ago of this morning’s planned outage, which was to allow crews to perform maintenance on a power substation.
Electricity was expected to be restored by 6 a.m. today.
Friday’s outage started with brownouts from 3:45 a.m. to 6 a.m., when power blinked out fully, said Tricia Barrett, an operations assistant with the PUD.
The unexpected loss of power meant that one Joyce-area customer lost about 300 turkey and chicken eggs.
Nina Thomas, owner of Loud Water Farm, had about 300 chicken and turkey eggs in two incubators overnight.
All but one turkey egg failed to hatch, she said.
“You can’t really blame them,” Thomas said of the utility company.
