The owner of the historical ferry Kalakala plans to move the vessel by the end of the week from Seattle’s Union Lake to LaConner.
Steve Rodrigues was still making plans, but says it should be towed through the Ballard Locks at 4 p.m. Friday. If that doesn’t work, the next time would be at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The timing is for arrival at LaConner at high tide.
Rodrigues says he plans to put the Kalakala, which once ran from Port Angeles to Victoria, on public display at a LaConner marina while he works on long-term plans to restore the vessel as a tourist attraction. He says he’s talking with people in Port Angeles and Anacortes.
