Everything looked good early Tuesday morning for the long-awaited departure of the former ferry Kalakala from Seattle’s Lake Union.
Owner Steve Rodrigues, chided for weeks of fruitless attempts to get the rusted boat moved away from Lake Union, cleared all regulatory hurdles and even had a couple of tugboats ready to pull the unsightly vessel to Neah Bay.
The Kalakala was even untethered from the lakeside dock for a short time Tuesday.
But Mother Nature would have none of it.
The National Weather Service calls for wind speeds of 25 to 35 knots to hit the Strait of Juan de Fuca by tonight as a storm front reaches the North Olympic Peninsula.
That led Coast Guard officials to rescind permission for Tuesday’s voyage, possibly for up to a week.
