PHOTOS: Kids dream at Airport Appreciation Day in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Levi Bradshaw, 4, looks at an Icon modern single-engine airplane on display at the Airport Appreciation Day at Fairchild International Airport on Saturday.

Holding him is his father, Peter Bradshaw, of Port Angeles.

A tethered half-inflated hot air balloon is in the background.

The most popular offering at the event was the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagles free flights for children ages 8 to 13.

The hot air balloons were grounded at Airport Appreciation Day at Fairchild International Airport because of the weather, so organizers turned an older balloon into an inside-out “bounce house.” Children played inside the half-inflated balloon with beach balls while enjoying the steady stream of air being forced into the canopy to keep it partially inflated.
