Klallam health fair set today

PORT ANGELES — A health fair featuring a walk through a 20-foot-long inflatable colon is planned at the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Center today.

The Lower Elwha Department of Emergency Management is hosting the Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tribal Center at 2851 Lower Elwha Road.

The fair is open to the public.

“We will provide information on how to keep your family safe during and after emergencies,” said Emergency Management Director Hollie Kaufman, an advanced registered nurse practitioner.

“We will distribute supply lists so that participants learn what they might need to gather in order to be prepared for a disaster, and we will also provide the innovative ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ information — if you are prepared for a ‘Zombie’ attack, you are prepared for any kind of disaster.”

The Emergency Preparedness and Health Fair will feature a walk through a 20-foot-long inflatable “colon.”

The fair also will feature free dental exams, free hearing aid cleanings, an acupuncture demonstration, chair massage and prizes.

The Lower Elwha Medical Reserve Corps will provide free Tdap vaccinations for adults who are not covered for this by insurance.

This vaccination includes one for whooping cough (pertussis), which, at present, has been declared an epidemic in Washington state.

Information will be provided on how to join the Medical Reserve Corps and Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT.

Clallam County Fire District No. 2 will be on hand with an emergency vehicle, and CERT will bring its incident command unit for display.

American Red Cross personnel will be available for questions and have information on emergency response.
