Knifepoint robbery, assault follow late-night call that lures victim to city park

PORT ANGELES — A man was robbed at knife point and assaulted by four men late Saturday night after he went to a Port Angeles park to meet people who said they found things that belonged to him.

The Port Angeles man told police that he received a call from someone he didn’t know at about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The caller told him they had found some items that belonged to him, Cpl. Bob Ensor said in a news release.

The man and the caller arranged to meet at Francis Street Park so he could retrieve his property, the news release said.

When he arrived at about 11 p.m. he was robbed and then attacked, police said.

Police have not released the victim’s name, the nature of his injuries or information about what was taken.

The injuries didn’t appear to be serious or life threatening, said Cpl. Kevin Miller

The victim was taken to Olympic Medical Center, where he was treated and discharged, Miller said.

Cpl. Jesse Winfield said he didn’t know what items the caller said he had found to lure the victim to the area.

The man was unable to give police more details about his attackers other than three were white men and one was Native American or Hispanic.

Port Angeles Police responded to the scene and called in help from the Border Patrol and Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Also responding was Sequim Police Officer Mike Hill with his police dog, Chase.

The area of the crime was searched, but no suspects were found, the news release said.

There have been two other recent knife-point robberies.

They don’t none appear to be related, Miller said.

In early April, a Port Angeles man on East Fifth Street had four men with two knives knock on his door and demand money.

In late March, Jaime Bautista, manager of Fiesta Jalisco Mexican Restaurant, was robbed by a man brandishing a knife late at night.

In that robbery, the bandit showed the 6-inch knife, demanded money, grabbed Bautista by the shoulders and kicked him several times in the head when the victim was on the ground.

Bautista was hospitalized and released the next day.

The robbers in those cases remain at large.

Any witnesses or anyone who might have more information on who these robbers might be are asked to phone police at 360-452-4545 or to give an anonymous tip phone Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
