SEQUIM — Dozens of people filed into the Sequim Planning Commission’s meeting Tuesday night, but many of them didn’t get to comment on the project that concerned them because there weren’t enough commissioners present.
The meeting on the proposed Cedar Ridge subdivision on Sequim’s east side has been rescheduled for Oct. 18, with a public hearing before the City Council reset for Oct. 24.
“I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause,” said Dennis Lefevre, director of the city’s Planning Department.
“It’s nice to see you folks show up.”
Only four of the seven-member commission attended Tuesday’s meeting.
Freedman cannot vote
One of them, Larry Freedman, is involved with the Cedar Ridge development and must recuse himself from any Planning Commission action on the proposal.
That left three commissioners, which is short of the necessary majority, called a quorum.
A good-sized chunk of the audience left once the matter was rescheduled, and people continued to trickle out as the commission considered other business.
Cedar Ridge Associates has proposed a 236-lot subdivision on about 64 acres north of Spyglass Road and east of Lofgrin Road.
Many people have objected to the plan, worried about the density of the development and the potential effects on traffic, wildlife, water quality and overall quality of life.
