OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Rehabilitation work on U.S. Highway 101 around Lake Crescent is scheduled to begin on the west end of the project and move east this week.
Drivers should expect up to half-hour delays each direction during weekday work hours — about 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. — and slower travel times through the work zone, said Penny Wagner, Olympic National Park spokeswoman.
Drivers should be aware of flaggers before start time setting up signs and equipment, she said. A pilot car will guide traffic within work areas with alternating lanes.
On Monday, road work will be located between milepost 220 and milepost 224 at La Poel, Wagner said. Longer delays are likely prior to Memorial Day weekend and will be announced in advance, she said.
Strider Construction Inc. of Bellingham is the contractor for the $27.5 million project to rehabilitate 12 miles of highway around the lake. The final phase of the three-year project began last week.
Major work in this final phase will include completing the guardrail installation, restoring the road width around milepost 229, paving the final 2½ inches of driving surface and striping.
Starting April 1, work hours will be restricted to two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset.
