FORKS — The 24-acre former Rosmond Brothers Sawmill property in Forks has been sold — and may become a kind of rustic shopping mall.
William Sperry and his wife, Kitty, of Forks purchased the property for $392,000 on June 3 from Winney Construction, and work to clean up the site began on June 7.
Sperry said no immediate plans are in place for the property, although the couple is considering leasing portions of it to small shop owners.
“It’s wide open,” he said.
“I don’t have people or anything lined up yet.”
Sperry said he and his wife plan a reunion for former employees of the mill at the property on Aug. 9.
“I heard they are great people,” he said.
“Eventually I’ll get to know them.”
At the reunion, former employees will be interviewed and have their photographs taken at their former work area at the mill.
Interviews and photos are to published in a book the Sperries plan on the mill.
The Sperries met with city staff on June 10 to discuss the future use of the site and changing the zoning of the property from industrial to commercial use.
Sperry said the couple will have to wait until about March 2009 for any changes in zoning to be approved.
