OLYMPIA — Gov. Chris Gregoire says a special legislative session to deal with the state’s budget woes will begin Saturday.
Legislative leaders say they have an agreement that will address about $784 million of the $1 billion deficit to the current year’s budget, which covers state spending through June.
Leaders say that about $200 million of that will recognize across-the-board cuts Gregoire previously ordered. The Legislature has a bipartisan agreement to add another $584 in additional savings. That includes about $200 million of federal education money that is being diverted for general fund expenses.
Lawmakers say they hope to be done with their work in a day.
