LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Fairly good time to get out, dance

IT’S FAIR TIME in Clallam County this weekend.

Starting tonight through Sunday, you’ll find plenty of live, local music to enjoy, both at the fair and around the area.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest singers Rusty and Duke from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Dee Coburn and the Night Beats bring their oldies, country and rock ’n’ roll beats for dancing from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ Today at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Chip Norris hosts the jam session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Today at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Good Machine has a blend of folk, bluegrass and old-time influences — upbeat and boisterous Americana — from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Family-oriented and free.

■ Today at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., the open-mic variety show begins at 9 p.m.

On Friday, The 4th Street Cats play from 9 p.m. to midnight.

■ On Saturday at Front Street Alibi, 1605 E. Front St. Crossfire plays from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. following the fourth Badger Run, a benefit for the Peninsula Humane Society.

Cover of $5, free for runners. Ticket includes a door prize ticket and burgers while they last.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by the Serendipity Band with special guests Hattie Buckman, Vienna Barron and Gary Prosser until 8 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Wednesday at Easy Street Coffee and Tea House, 128 W. First St., there’s an open mic for musicians to play original works only.

Forks

■ On Saturday at Blakeslee’s Bar & Grill (formerly the Mill Creek Tavern), 1222 S. Forks Ave., the Soul Ducks play unique blues from 8 p.m. to midnight. No cover.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends have a musical showcase of Americana from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Sam Amazyan and Brandon Smith play guitar and cello for a classical and gypsy sound from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, the Robin Bessier Jazz Trio, a local vocal jazz artist and group from Port Townsend, plays jazz from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Gil Yslas offers up a variety of melodies from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Static Illusion, a new group, plays with two other local acts, Blue Clouded Grey and the Logue Ranger, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Wednesday, dance to the rock ’n’ roll sound of Dee Coburn and the Night Beats from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Broadway & Bordeaux offers a musical trip down memory lane with Jaie Arianna Livingstone and Joel Yelland at 6 p.m. Reservations recommended. No cover.

On Wednesday, Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Silver and Gold with Les and Ken plays memorable hits for the public to dance to from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express, 1441 E. Washington St., Gil Yslas entertains at the weekly Music on the Roof from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at the Alder Wood Bistro, 139 W. Alder St., Howly Slim and Sandy Summers play original folksy “stories in song” outside (weather permitting) during dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to the Soul Ducks’ energetic blues from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday, Night Crew plays Top 40s from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, enjoy the music of Van Dukes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Jeremy Pederson plays contemporary folk from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 6 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., Steve Grandinetti plays acoustic classical guitar from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., The Lures, a Seattle band on tour with a vibrant electric sound, play at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, listen to epic ballads and blues with Cold Comfort at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open-mic night starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Clay Bartlett, local singer-songwriter, plays originals and covers starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, The Toolshed Trio plays country blues, ragtime, folk and roots-rock from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing, 330 10th St., The Blues Counselors offer up blues and R&B covers from B.B. King, Etta James, Eric Clapton and more from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the Alternators (with George Radebaugh and Peter Evasick from the Delta Rays) play a mix of Cajun and zydeco from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. No cover.

On Wednesday, the Chuck Easton Quintet, a local favorite, plays jazz in the beer garden from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., The High Council performs roots-based, funk, soul and R&B in the beer garden from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For those 21 and older. Free.

On Saturday, Cedar Teeth plays rough and rusty rock ’n’ roll in the impound lot from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. For those 21 and older. Free.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesday at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., Skip Morris plays jazz with Ted Enderle and Tom Svornich from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Tuesday, the Boiler Room, 711 Water St., hosts an open-mic night at 8 p.m.

High notes

■ Today, the Port Townsend Concerts on the Dock brings Ko Ko Jo to Pope Marine Plaza in downtown Port Townsend. The group brings Seattle rock from the South Sound music scene. The party starts at 4:30 p.m., with music from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Free.

Attendees can bring picnics or find food to-go at local businesses.

A beer, wine and cider garden will be available.

■ On Friday at Key City Cabaret, 419 Washington St., Port Townsend, showcases Rattletrap Ruckus, a Bellingham band with local roots and an entertaining musical style that spans ragtime to klezmer, paso doble, polka, tango and beyond, at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $20. Phone 360-385-KCPT (5278).

■ On Saturday at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle, Strings and Things brings together two family bands, Crichton Family Band and Cylwick Sisters, for a musical evening of bluegrass, Celtic, gospel and some country for all ages at 7:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday, Olympic Cellars, 255410 U.S. Highway 101, hosts The Paperboys in their summer concert series at 7 p.m. Bella Italia will be on site with food for purchase.

This is a benefit performance for the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts.

Tickets are $13 in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door.

■ On Saturday, the Port Townsend Main Street’s 24th annual Uptown Street Fair & Parade on Tyler Street is a day of music, food and fun.

Tasty food on the street, free art activities for families and performances by local musicians goes on from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Quimper Grange,1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, Amy Carroll calls the contra dance while Kristin & Otto Smith play.

The dance begins at 7:30 p.m. and ends at about 10:30 p.m.

Admission is $6, $3 for those 3 to 18 years old, free for those younger than 3.

■ On Sunday at the Rosewind Common House, 3131 Haines St., Port Townsend, an English country dance occurs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Nan Evans will teach and call, with live music provided by the Rosewind Country Dance Band.

The dance will be followed by a potluck dinner. $5 suggested donation.

The RoseWind Common House is a fragrance-free facility; no street shoes (dance shoes or slippers OK).

■ On Sunday, the Sequim City Band presents its summer concert at 3 p.m. at the James Center for the Performing Arts in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave. Free for all ages.

Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict is the guest announcer for the concert, which will feature marches, ’40s hits and popular film themes.

Bring weather-appropriate materials.

■ On Tuesday, the Sequim Music in the Park will feature Twisted Roots playing blues and Western swing starting at 6 p.m. in Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., with free fun for all.

■ On Wednesday, the Porto Alegre band plays Latin and swing music for Concerts on the Pier in Port Angeles from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In the event of rain, the performance will be at The Gateway plaza, corner of Lincoln and Front streets.

Bring a chair for either location. Vendors will be on site with food and drink.
