LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Peninsula venues serve up some saucy tunes

FOR THOSE HUNGRY for some good tunes and good eats, this upcoming week promises a hefty buffet of both to suit all tastes.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s musical jam with guest singers Terry Roszatycki and Jim Hensen from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Chantilly Lace is back for another night of classic rock ’n’ roll from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ Today at Bar N9NE, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., Joy in Mudville plays old-time funk and rock starting at around 8:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Coog’s Budget CDs, 111 W. Front St., Jack Havoc, Tee Pee Creeper, Inside Defiance and M.C.F.D. with sound provided by DJ O.B.1 play an all-ages heavy metal/punk show starting at 6 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at The Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., Three Too Many puts on a show of mostly modern rock with some classic and alternative thrown in at 9 p.m. $3 cover.

On Saturday, Twisted Roots plays folk, swing and blues from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $3 cover.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by Serendipity with special guests High Country with Chuck Grall until 8 p.m.

■ Every Friday at the Lazy Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Dan Maguire plays original folk and Americana from 7:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. This week’s special guest is Bread and Gravy, which will play from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Wednesdays, Ches Ferguson & Friends perform classic rock with a few originals thrown in from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts a jam session from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Sunday and Wednesday at Cafe New Day, 102 W. Front St., Gerald Braude plays acoustic finger-style jazz from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

■ On Monday at the Coo Coo Nest, 1017 E. First St., join the open mic with Jared Bauer at 9 p.m.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play jazz dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers are free.

Sekiu

■ On Friday at the Sekiu Community Center, 42 Rice St., Dave and Rosalie Secord play bluegrass favorites for a community potluck from noon to 1 p.m.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong offers a musical showcase from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Friday, Rufus & the Blue Hares bring folksy, bluesy style from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Craig Buhler brings his saxophones and flutes for an evening of professional jazz from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at the Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Buck Ellard plays country originals and cover songs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Silver and Gold plays classic country tunes for the public to dance to from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Sundays at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Dottie Lilly and Vienna Barron host an open mic (music only) from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to the Jim Hoffman Band’s country flair from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Creme Tangerine brings back the sound of the Beatles from 9:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

On Saturday, Jet City Rock Show plays new dance and rock hits from 9:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday on the Casino Stage, listen to the acoustic, blues, rock and Cajun tunes of Keith Scott from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, DJ O.B.1 hits up the Rainforest Bar with beats for the young at heart from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Port Hadlock

■ On Sundays at Zoog’s Caveman Cookin’, 141 Chimacum Road, join the all-ages open mic from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Musicians, singers, poets, comics, dramatists and everyone in between are welcome.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., come check out this week’s local DJ starting at 9 p.m.

On Friday, it’s the Badd Dog Blues Society offering up some moody tunes starting at 8:30 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, come for a night of raw beauty with Nothing But the Truth Now, featuring Port Townsend’s own Megan Trenary and Usana Widfara Luoma at 9 p.m.

On Tuesdays, join the weekly jazz night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This week, the Mark Schecter Quartet plays the free event.

■ Every Thursday, The Boiler Room, 711 Water St., hosts an all-ages open mic at 8 p.m., with sign-ups at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub & Grill, 1016 Lawrence St., Greenlandic singer-songwriter Simon Lynge offers up original works starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, the Solvents are back to play “sometimes simple music” with violins and acoustic guitars from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

On Tuesdays, join in on an open mic with Jarrod Bramson at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday, at Sirens, 823 Water St., Lady Grace graces the stage with her classical, hip-hop and blues-folk-influenced music at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, two rock label artists, Sin Circus and Amadon, play from 9 p.m. to midnight. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session starting at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join the open mic starting at 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Monday at The Tin Brick, 232 Taylor St., an open mic hosted by Jack Reid starts sign-ups at 6 p.m., the opening act at 6:30 p.m. and the open mic at 7 p.m. for all ages. For more information, phone 360-379-4181.

Discovery Bay

■ Every Saturday at Snug Harbor Cafe, 281732 U.S. Highway 101, Skeeter Ezell plays covers of Roy Orbison and the like from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Friday at Key City Public Theatre, 419 Washington St., Port Townsend, local singer Sylvia Herold presents vintage songs of America’s golden era in concert with backup by Chuck Ervin and George Rezendes.

On Wednesday, Grammy award-winning folk singer Mollie O’Brien and her husband, Rich Moore, present an eclectic and soul-satisfying menu of Americana folk songs.

Both performances start at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $18, available at the box office or online at www.keycitytheatre.com.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., Olympic Peninsula Dance presents Three Chords and the Truth for a country two-step dance from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Lessons with Janice Eklund are at 7 p.m.

This is a smoke- and scent-free venue for all ages; no partner or experience necessary.

Admission of $10 includes a dance lesson.

■ On Saturday at Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, Wild Phil and the Buffalo Gals play for guest caller Sherry Nevins for the third Saturday contra dance from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $6, or $3 for ages 3 to 18. All dances are taught; no partners necessary.

■ On Sunday at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, Coyle, Carrie Clark’s diversity in music provides an afternoon concert of indie, pop, folk and jazz originals backed by Dave Pascal on bass and Greg Fulton on a variety of instruments and backing vocals at 3 p.m. Admission is by donation.

■ On Sunday at the Crescent Bay Lions Club, 181 Holly Hill Road west of Port Angeles, Dave and Rosalie Secord perform at the club’s breakfast from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost for the meal is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and younger.
