LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Scurry over for Port Angeles’ Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival, live tunes

IT’S CRAB FEST time on the Port Angeles waterfront this weekend.

Admission to the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival is free, and many of your favorite bands and performers will be on the music stage starting at 12:30 p.m. Friday until 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

In the meantime, enjoy local musical fare across the Peninsula the rest of the week.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, it’s Jerry’s country jam with guest performer the High Country band from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This month, talented singers, dancers and instrumentalists are invited to compete Thursdays for a grand prize, to be awarded Nov. 6. For more information, phone 360-452-1177.

On Saturday, The Trespassers make an appearance, so swing, rock or two-step with them from 8 p.m. to midnight.

■ Today at The Dam Bar, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112, Gordon Bowlby hosts the jam session from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ Today at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., the open mic starts at 8 p.m.

On Friday, the 2nd Friday Art Rock (2FAR) features Michael Mills as the artist with the Dan de Fuca Band from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. $3 cover.

■ On Friday in The Landing mall’s Heatherton Gallery, 115 E. Railroad Ave., Tom East, Jason Paul and David Keyte play smooth jazz from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during an artists’ reception.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., BluMeadows plays blues and classic rock from 7 p.m. to midnight.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, there’s a jam session from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. hosted by Rosalie and Dave Secord with the Luck of the Draw band playing bluegrass and variety until 8 p.m. Guests Mick and Barry will add classic rock and country.

■ On Friday at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Bellingham quartet Br’er Rabbit performs folk-stomp Americana for the free Art Blast starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information, phone Noah Glaude at 360-417-8500.

■ On Saturday at The Metta Room (formerly R Bar), 132 E. Front St., R&B (Rachael and Barry) with Tom Svornich and Chuck Easton play classic rock and Motown starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Elliott’s Antique Emporium, 135 E. First St., Hawaii Amor plays traditional Hawaiian music on the ukulele from about 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

■ On Saturday, the White Crane Community Center, 129 W. First St., hosts Seattle’s blues/rock/reggae band BluMeadows for its Oktoberfest from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Admission is $20 (valid ID required) for those wishing to sample Angeles Brewing Supply’s microbrews; it’s $10 for those not wishing to sample.

■ On Saturday on The Alle Stage upstairs at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., the Soul Ducks play their hopping rockabilly and jumping blues with special guest Corey Crozier from 8 p.m. to midnight. No cover, though donations are appreciated.

■ On Tuesdays at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., Wally’s Boys play ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

Sequim

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and friends entertain from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Friday, Mary Tulin is back with her Celtic folk music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Lush Life returns with jazz by Trevor Hanson and Jim Rosand from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bill Volmut showcases original tunes and acoustic folk rock from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Dukes of Dabob play dancing favorites from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Olympic Express plays big-band sounds from the ’40s from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Gert Wiitala (keyboard), Howie Gilbert (drums) and Mike Merker (bass) debut their group, Dancer’s Edge Trio, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The group plays danceable tunes from The Great American Songbook, along with Latin, rock, jazz and modern beats.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Dos Locos with Kevin Lee Magner and Scott Bradley performs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St., Rusty and Duke play classic country and rock ’n’ roll for the public to dance to from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. No cover.

■ On Sunday at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., the Cat’s Meow Jazz Band plays dance music from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $4 for members, $5 for non-members. Open to all ages.

■ On Wednesday at Nourish, 1345 S. Sequim Ave., Victor Reventlow hosts the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with sign-ups at 6 p.m.

Blyn

■ Today in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, dance to Buck Ellard’s country tunes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Jet City Rock Show plays dance rock from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, Pretty Twisted plays hits from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. during the Pink Party for the Cure. Wear pink, and $5 will be donated to Olympic Medical Cancer Center.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, listen to the mellow tunes of Jason Mogi from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Al Harris and Sarah Shea bring their jazzy style from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Chimacum

■ Today in the Chimacum Schools auditorium, 91 West Valley Road, UpWest Arts presents country blues and folk singer Greg Brown from Iowa City with guitarist Nina Gerber at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $32 at the door.

Port Hadlock

■ On Friday at the Ajax Cafe, 21 N. Water St., Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Ludlow

■ Today in the Fireside Room at the Resort at Port Ludlow, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson plays classical guitar from 6 p.m. to closing.

Port Townsend

■ Today at the Cellar Door, 940 Water St., it’s local rotating DJ night from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, Jim Nyby and the F Street Band bring New Orleans-style music at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Trash Fecta has its CD release party at 9 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Tyler Street Irregulars play from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., Brother Townsend provides entertainment with local indie folk music at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Blue Holiday offers up local blues, funk and reggae sounds at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesdays, there’s a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

On Wednesdays, join in the open mic starting at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Rob Rigoni & Budapest West blend rock, jazz, exotica, country and more starting at 9 p.m.

On Saturday, Sam Maynard, local singer-songwriter, plays originals and covers from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., the Blue Crows perform rock, soul and R&B from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Quimper Grange’s square dance and social, 1219 Corona St., Seattle caller Gabe Strand calls squares and related sets to the music of Skookumband with Joanne Pontrello on fiddle and Charles Espey on banjo from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults, free for ages 16 and younger. Dancers are encouraged to bring snacks to share and personal water.

■ Every Monday at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., Trevor Hanson plays guitar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association meets for old-time fiddle, country and bluegrass performances at 1:30 p.m.

Free and open to the public, though donations are accepted.

■ On Sunday at Finnriver Farm & Cidery, 62 Barn Swallow Road, Chimacum, celebrate World Apple Day with music and dance plus cider and pies from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Musical guests are The Twins & the Easily Persuaded, 1 p.m.; Village Idiots, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and the Apple Day Band square dance, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., with Joanne Pontrello calling.

■ On Monday at the Port Townsend Friends meeting, 1841 Sheridan St., Anna Fritz, Portland, Ore.-based cellist and folksinger, stops by at 7 p.m. on her Northwest tour to perform original songs for cello and voice. Local singer-songwriter Alexa Sunshine Rose will open.

Suggested donations range from $8 to $20, though no one will be turned away.
