Log truck spills load on Highway 112 west of Joyce

CLALLAM BAY — A portion of state Highway 112 was closed for more than four hours Friday after a fully-loaded log truck overturned west of Joyce, the State Patrol said.

Charles D. Aslin, 44, of Port Angeles was traveling eastbound in a 1991 Freightliner when he attempted to negotiate a left curve and overturned near milepost 33, spilling logs onto the side of the highway, according to a State Patrol memo.

Aslin was taken to Olympic Medical Center after the 7:52 a.m. crash. He was treated and discharged Friday, a hospital official said.

The log truck came to a rest on its top. The roadway was blocked for slightly more than four hours as crews worked to load the logs and remove the damaged truck, troopers said.

The crash occurred near Gibson Road about halfway between Pysht and Twin.

Aslin was not wearing a seat belt, State Patrol said. Drugs or alcohol were not involved.

Aslin was cited for driving too fast for conditions, according to the State Patrol memo.
