PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend-Keystone ferry runs are expected to sell out by noon this summer, and one- to two-boat waits are expected — creating a “disincentive” to come to Port Townsend, a city official said Monday.
“We will have a difficult transportation challenge ahead of us,” said city Planning Director Rick Sepler, addressing more than 50 who attended Monday’s Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce weekly luncheon at Fort Worden State Park Commons.
That’s why the City Council is proposing a suite of mitigations — means of compensating the city and Jefferson County for the loss of ferry service, Sepler said.
The planning director said up until last year, Washington State Ferries had left a legacy of bad decisions but was not listening and responding to the city and county’s ferry transportation needs.
