Longtime volunteer named to Crescent School Board in Joyce

JOYCE — The lone applicant for an open position on the Crescent School Board has been seated on the board.

Dara Peppard, a stay-at-home mother of four, was named Thursday night to fill the remaining term of Tracey Grover, said Board President Susan Hopper.

Grover submitted her resignation Jan. 24 after having served more than nine years as a board member. Her term ends November 2015.

Peppard, who has four children attending school at a variety of grade levels in the district, is a longtime district volunteer.

“She’s very enthusiastic and tries to involve herself in all aspects of the school,” Hopper said.

“If we’re doing fundraising, she’s there,” Hopper added.

“If there is an event children are in, she’s there. If there’s an activity where volunteers are needed, she is always available,” she said.

School Board members interviewed Peppard and recessed into executive session for a discussion before reopening the meeting to vote on her selection and seat her onto the board.

Her first full board meeting will be March 28, when the board meets at 7 p.m. at the school library at 50350 state Highway 112.

She will be expected to file for election, Hopper said.

Grover said she resigned because she is caring for her elderly father and has other family responsibilities that are taking more of her time.

In addition to Hopper and Peppard, other board members are Trish Haggerty, who is vice chairwoman, and Sandra Criss and Holly Rose.

Peppard’s husband, Trent Peppard, is an electrical inspector for the city of Port Angeles, Hopper said.
