Madrigal Dinner to take diners to 16th century on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School cafeteria will be transformed into a 16th-century castle this weekend, as knights and ladies, kings and paupers entertain at the seventh annual Madrigal Dinner.

The royal dinner — a fundraiser for the school’s music programs — will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave.

“As in the 16th century, there will be no utensils; everyone will eat with their hands,” said Jolene Dalton-Gailey, director of the Port Angeles High School choirs.

The food on the Madrigal Dinner menu is designed to be eaten with hands only, and no silverware is offered.

Tickets are $25 per person.

Guests are encouraged, but not required, to arrive and dine in Renaissance costume.

The live dinner theatre show, hosted by Port Angeles High School’s Vocal Unlimited Choir, will include performances of music in the style of the Renaissance era, and storytelling.

The menu includes Elizabethan chicken with roasted potatoes and candied carrots, rustic pea soup, bread, cheese and fruit, apple strudel with vanilla custard sauce, and the centerpiece — wassail, a hot mulled cider.
