NEAH BAY — The 87th annual Makah Days wrapped up Sunday after three days of celebrating tribal culture and tradition.
Canoe races, dances, slahal games, fireworks, a parade, salmon bakes and the crowning of royalty were among the activities at the event, which also included vendors of native crafts.
This year’s theme was “Honoring our Past MCs.”
It celebrated two former masters of ceremonies of the festival, Ed Claplanhoo and Ron Markishtum Sr., who faithfully attended the event for the past four decades.
Both died earlier this year.
Thelma Claplanhoo, Ed’s Claplanhoo’s widow, and Lina Markishtum, Ron Markishtum’s widow, were the grand marshals of the parade Saturday.
