A 36-year-old Sequim man has been arrested after a woman and her child were allegedly assaulted at Railroad Bridge Park.
Steven E. Ong was booked into Clallam County jail for investigation of second degree assault, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department reported Sunday.
A 22-year-old woman said she and her 21-month-old child were assaulted at the park on Saturday afternoon. Neither was seriously injured, but death threats were made to both during the assault, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Sheriff’s deputies and Sequim police officers began searching the area around the park Saturday afternoon after Dungeness River Audubon Center employees reported the incident. A man matching the assailant’s description was spotted about 6 p.m. Saturday.
Ong had outstanding felony warrants for failure to register as a sex offender, the sheriff’s spokesman said. He also has previous convictions for kidnapping and second degree assault.
