SEATTLE — A 78-year-old man injured in a boat explosion at Sequim’s John Wayne Marina on Feb. 7 has died in the intensive-care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Keith Bryant’s condition had been upgraded from critical to serious condition last week at the advanced care center, but he suffered a setback and died Wednesday night, according to the hospital.
“It appears that he has died as a result of injuries sustained in the explosion,” Sequim Police Detective Sgt. Sean Madison said Thursday.
An autopsy is expected to be performed by the King County coroner, Madison said.
Bryant was injured in the powerful blast that scattered debris from his 38-foot cabin cruiser up to 75 yards around John Wayne Marina on Sequim Bay.
Port of Port Angeles officials confirmed that Bryant was installing a propane tank at the time of the blast.
A Sequim police investigation showed that the explosion was propane-related, but cannot determine more than that, Madison said.
