Man faces charges in Port Angeles stabbing

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of first-degree assault after he allegedly attacked a housemate with a kitchen knife is expected to be charged in Clallam County Superior Court on Tuesday after having bail set at $100,000 Friday.

Nikolai Jared Logan, 21, was booked into the jail for investigation of one count of first-degree assault, domestic violence, after he allegedly tried to stab Douglas Baker, 60, multiple times Thursday evening, said Ron Cameron, Clallam County sheriff’s chief criminal deputy.

Baker, who had been allowing Logan to stay at his home on Ripplebrook Drive off Deer Park Road, was treated for his injuries and discharged from Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, hospital spokesman Bobby Beeman said Friday.

In Logan’s first court appearance Friday, Clallam County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Troberg requested that Logan’s bail be set at $100,000 because Baker received multiple lacerations during the alleged attack, including one on the stomach.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge S. Brooke Taylor granted Troberg’s bail request and set Logan’s next court date for 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office gave this account of events that led to Baker being allegedly attacked.

At about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, sheriff’s deputies received a 9-1-1 call about a stabbing at the Ripplebrook Drive home.

Cameron said Baker had made the call himself and that he had been home alone with Logan when the attack allegedly occurred.

Law enforcement officers arrived to find Baker had suffered multiple wounds with what appeared to be a kitchen knife, Cameron said.

Household chores

The alleged assault reportedly started as a small argument about household duties and got more serious from there, Cameron added.

“It started as a little tiff about chores and helping around the house and just escalated,” he said.

Baker was transported to Olympic Medical Center while officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles Police Department, State Patrol and U.S. Border Patrol searched for Logan along the roads surrounding the home.

Law enforcement searched for Logan for about five hours to no avail until a sheriff’s deputy leaving the area to respond to another call spotted Logan walking along the side of Deer Park Road at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Cameron said officers had been given a description of Logan’s clothes and knew he had been wearing a backpack.

“There’s not that many people walking down Deer Park Road with a backpack like that in the middle of the night,” Cameron said.

Logan was arrested without incident.
