FORKS — A Hoquiam man was airlifted to a Seattle hospital after the log truck he was driving rolled over and struck a tree.
James R. Day, 61, was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 101 at milepost 165 about 7:11 a.m. Thursday when he fell asleep while driving, the State Patrol said.
The log truck left the roadway to the right, struck a tree and came to rest in the southbound ditch, the State Patrol said.
Day was flown to Harborview Medical Center, the State Patrol said. However, he was not admitted as of Friday morning, hospital spokesperson Susan Gregg said.
The State Patrol cited Day for wheels off the roadway and for not wearing a seatbelt.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, the State Patrol said.
The truck was totally destroyed and towed to Pat Rabey Trucking Inc. in Hoquiam.
