Man found dead following house fire

SEQUIM — A man was found dead inside a home after a structure fire west of Sequim.

Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Amy Bundy said Wednesday no foul play was suspected. She was waiting on next of kin to be notified and an autopsy to be conducted before releasing the man’s identity.

A neighbor called 9-1-1 to report the fire in the 100 block of Barnes Road, south of Atterberry Road, at 12:41 p.m. Tuesday. Clallam County Fire District 3 units arrived 10 minutes later.

Battalion Chief Elliott Jones said they had two attack water lines on the home quickly, and firefighters discovered the deceased man after they had knocked the fire back.

The home was significantly full with items and heavily damaged from the fire, Jones said.

No other people or pets were found in the home.

The fire was extinguished at 2:50 p.m. and under watch until 10 p.m. to ensure the roof didn’t have any more hot spots, Jones said.

No nearby vehicles, structures or trees were damaged. The home was being rented, Jones said.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

The response included 19 firefighters from Fire District 3, three firefighters from Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue, two Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies and two EMTs with Olympic Ambulance.
