PORT ANGELES — A unidentified man was killed today when a vehicle he had raised with scissor jacks fell on top of him, authorities said.
The man died at Angeles Collision Repair and Towing, 71 Mount Pleasant Road, shortly after noon.
Clallam County Fire District No. 2 Assistant Chief Dan Huff said the man had his vehicle towed to the business “within the last few days.”
“He came in, apparently, to retrieve something unbeknownst to the people there,” Huff said.
Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nick Turner — who said he did not have the man’s name available to him — said he raised the vehicle with scissor jacks and did not block a wheel or set the emergency brake.
“He had wanted to remove some parts from the car,” Turner said.
The man was removing parts when the vehicle slid off the jacks and landed on top of him, Turner said.
When the business owner discovered the man, he phoned 9-1-1 and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Huff said.
“We kept [CPR] going for a lengthy period of time after that,” Huff said.
Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
