AMARILLO, Texas — Port Angeles police today took custody in northern Texas of the man they say shot his next door neighbor in Port Angeles on June 20.
Bobby J. Smith, 58, was arrested in Amarillo on a felony Washington state warrant for first-degree murder.
Police confirmed June 28 that Smith shot 63-year-old Robert Fowler at 211 E. Vashon Ave. Smith was not charged in the wake of the shooting, pending a laboratory examination of evidence at a State Patrol crime lab.
The warrant was issued for Smith, who was tracked to Amarillo, on Sept. 23, and a team of Texas Rangers took Smith to the Potter County jail, Port Angeles police said.
Port Angeles police were advised that Smith waived extradition and two officers, Detective Kori Malone and Officer John Nutter, arrived in Texas on Sunday and gathered more evidence.
They flew Smith to Seattle on a commercial airline today and took to the Clallam County jail in Port Angeles.
Smith lived in the house at 211 E. Vashon Ave. when and where the shooting occurred. Fowler lived next door.
