PORT TOWNSEND — A 23-year-old Maple Valley man was arrested and airlifted to a Seattle hospital after colliding with multiple vehicles as he left Port Townsend in a Toyota Corolla, the State Patrol said.
Gordon W. McQuarrie was driving at a “high rate” Saturday on state Route 20 when he struck a Chevrolet Impala driven by Ava S. Fullerton, 35, of Port Townsend, just north of the Airport Cutoff Road intersection, troopers said in a collision memo.
The State Patrol said McQuarrie lost control and struck the Impala as Fullerton slowed for a traffic light.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said McQuarrie was driving recklessly and collided with several vehicles as he left the city.
McQuarrie was taken into police custody and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center, the State Patrol said.
He was listed in stable condition in Harborview’s intensive care unit on Sunday, a hospital nursing supervisor said.
Fullerton was not injured, troopers said.
The Toyota Corolla and Chevrolet Impala were each destroyed in the crash, the State Patrol said.
