CARLSBORG – About 40 residents of the Lazy Acres mobile home park east of Carlsborg are more ready for a natural disaster than they were before the first of several county seminars on the new “Map Your Neighborhood” preparedness program from county officials.
Penny Linterman, a program coordinator with the Clallam County Public Works Department who led the meeting last week, emphasized the need for a home disaster kit.
“It is important to be personally prepared, and a readily engaged neighborhood is very important,” Linterman said.
“And that’s missing in our society.”
The concept behind “Map Your Neighborhood” is simple: after taking care of yourself, a close-knit neighborhood can best take care of itself.
The county plans to present the program in other county neighborhoods in the coming weeks.
The county Department of Emergency Management plans to offer the seminar at the Clallam County Fair on Aug. 16-19.
After attending one of the 90-minute sessions, people can host their own neighborhood training meetings, Linterman said, which will save the county a lot of man-hours sharing the new program.
