NORDLAND — Citing nine legal reasons, opponents of a public water system on Marrowstone Island have filed a lawsuit asking a judge to stop the project.
Conserve Water First, Carrie and Wayne Rice, and Wayne and Nicole Chimenti are named as plaintiffs in the suit recorded Wednesday in Jefferson County Superior Court.
Jefferson County Public Utility District No. 1 is the defendant.
No court dates have been set.
Wayne King, secretary of the PUD’s board of commissioners, said the lawsuit is no surprise.
“We knew it was coming,” King said.
King defended the commissioners’ actions in approving the plan to build the $4.4 million system.
“We went to extremes to make sure we went by the law,” King said.
“I’m confident that we did the right things. Absolutely.”
