NORDLAND — A joint meeting of county and public utility district commissioners Tuesday disintegrated into a verbal battle over development of a Marrowstone Island water system.
The 40-minute meeting in Port Townsend included personal and political name-calling before ending without resolution.
Jefferson County Commissioner Dan Titterness, R-Port Townsend, called a halt to the meeting, suggesting county and Jefferson County Public Utility District officials develop an agenda in which the two agencies could discuss the matter at a future time.
The Western Washington Hearings Board has ordered the county to develop a plan for preventing saltwater intrusion into drinking wells.
