Meetings set to discuss Forks schools bond election try in November

FORKS — Quillayute Valley School District will hold a public meeting Thursday to discuss plans for a November bond election to finance the rebuilding of parts of Forks High School.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Quillayute Valley School District board room, at the Auto Tech Center, 390 S. Forks Ave.

The November election date was approved at the district’s May 14 School Board meeting.

The Citizens Advisory Committee will meet tonight at 6 p.m. at the Forks High School library, 411 S. Spartan Ave., to discuss the budget, scope and plans for the bond.

Plans created by the Tacoma school architectural firm BLRB Architects PS would cost up to $16.5 million, but the committee plans to scale back plans to reduce the cost, School Board chairman Bill Rohde said.

“I think the absolute maximum for us will be about $15 million,” he said.

“We’ll be discussing all of the plans at these meetings.”

Both meetings are open to the public, he said, but the Thursday meeting will be focused on drawing community opinion on the building and what should be done for phase two of the renovations.

“BLRB Architects are really big on community involvement, so we really want to hear what everyone is thinking,” Rohde said.
