OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — A memorial service and family gathering Thursday on the shore of Lake Crescent brought closure to a family tragedy more than 70 years old.
Three generations of the descendants of Russell and Blanch Warren of Forks gathered at Ambulance Point to remember the couple who apparently died when their car plunged into the lake’s chilly waters on their way home from Port Angeles in 1929.
The couple left behind two sons, 13-year-old Frank and 11-year-old Charles.
Frank’s grandson Jim Warren, acting as family spokesman, gave the eulogy at Wednesday’s private service.
“It was a very emotional moment for everybody,” Warren said. “I saw tears in a lot of people’s eyes, mine included.
“This has brought up so many memories. It was nice to visit those memories, brought up after all these years.”
