‘Metaphysical City’ explored by Robert Sullivan

PORT TOWNSEND — Rob Sullivan will speak about his book “The Metaphysical City: Six Ways of Understanding the Urban Milieu” at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The free presentation will be in the Carnegie reading room at the Port Townsend Public Library, 1220 Lawrence St.

Sullivan’s book uses metaphors to help understand the complexities of six cities; New York, Paris, Cairo, Mumbai, Tokyo and Los Angeles.

Sullivan is the author of “Rats,” “The Meadowlands,” “A Whale Hunt,” “How Not To Get Rich; Or Why Being Bad Off Isn’t So Bad,” “Cross Country,” “The Thoreau You Don’t Know” and “My American Revolution.”

His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, New York, A Public Space, Runner’s World, Condé Nast Traveler, GQ, Rolling Stone, The Independent of London, The London Times and Vogue.
