Mobile homes are an important source of affordable housing around the state.
Brigid Henderson, program manager for the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Mobile Home Relocation Program, said many mobile home park residents are the working poor, seniors on fixed incomes and individuals priced out of the built housing market.
Henderson said that six mobile home communities are closing this year and so far two are scheduled to close in 2023. From 2010 to 2020, 36 mobile and manufactured home properties have closed, leading to the loss of 711 spaces.
There are currently about 1,153 registered mobile and manufactured home communities in Washington that provide almost 64,000 spaces, according to the state Department of Commerce.
Of these, Clallam County has 33 registered mobile and manufactured home properties and 1,601 spaces. Jefferson County has eight and 246 spaces.
