More clues ready for Guess the Guest contest from Port Townsend Film Festival

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Film Festival has released the second batch of clues for its annual Guess the Guest contest.

Each year, the film festival features a Hollywood star as a special guest — past guests have included Tony Curtis, Cloris Leachman, Jane Powell, Peter Fonda and Elliot Gould — and each year, a contest to guess the name of the special guest begins about two months before the festival, which will be Sept. 24-26 this year.

Guesses from the first round of clues, which were released last week, have ranged from Kelsey Grammer to Elliot Gould again, said Janette Force, executive director.

In honor of beginning its second decade, the film festival, which will offer its 11th edition this year, is offering two clues weekly.

Another set of clues will be released next Wednesday.

Here’s are this week’s two clues, Nos. 3 and 4.

Here’s Clue No. 3

“In a Chevy with fins (so nice to ride in)

“Queen of the inland sea

“She braves all the waves

“and accepts accolades

“pointing out alkies with glee.”

Here’s Clue No. 4:

“Bean town’s a mean town

“no Mudville joy for her.

“She thought her team was #1.

“Now even magic has no fun —

“another year of grrrr.”

Clues released last week were:

Clue No. 1:

“Doin’ the best they can, two American kids

“singing songs of fame

“what do you do

“when the song’s about you

“and no one remembers your name?”

Clue Number 2:

“He tootled the horn, to his sister’s scorn,

“who would often give him the shoulder.

“But now she’s a fan, Adolphe is her man,

“and his honking has grown so much bolder.”

The winner, who will be chosen by random drawing from the first correct answers, will have a photograph taken with the festival’s special guest.

The announcement and the winner will be revealed on Aug. 18.

How to enter

To enter the contest, send your guess by mail to the Port Townsend Film Festival, P.O. Box 594, Port Townsend, WA 98368; by e-mail to director@ptfilmfest.com, with “Contest” written in the subject line, or by hand-delivery to the film festival office at Mount Baker Block, 211 Taylor St., Suite 32-A, second floor, at the corner of Water and Taylor streets.

Entries should include the guest guess, and the guesser’s mailing address, daytime phone number and e-mail address. The winner will be chosen by random drawing from the first correct answers.

Passes available

Passes are available now for the festival, which shows films from all over the world.

“At last count we have over 30 representatives from films and filmmakers from across the country and around the world,” Force said.
