More ferry runs canceled as Port Townsend service remains at one boat

PORT TOWNSEND – The Port Townsend-Keystone ferry route stayed limited to one boat Monday, continuing the cancellation of dozens of runs since the second ferry was shifted elsewhere Friday.

“We expect to be on the one-boat schedule for the rest of this week,” Hadley Green, Washington State Ferries spokeswoman, said Monday.

The MV Nisqually, one of two ferries that runs between Port Townsend and Keystone, was shuffled to the San Juan Islands run on Friday to fill a spot triggered when the MV Cathlamet crashed into pilings at Mukilteo and was taken out of service.

Both boat and pilings – known as dolphins – are currently being repaired, said Green.

The MV Quinault is the only ferry running between Port Townsend and Keystone and leaves every 90 minutes from the Port Townsend ferry terminal.

The routes that have been canceled are published on the Washington State Ferries Web site, www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/commuter-updates/index.cfm/fuseaction/bulletins.

Canceled out of the usual 16 daily runs, are:

  • From Port Townsend – 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

  • From Keystone – 11:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2:15 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.

The Quinault has a height restriction of 13-feet, 2-inches.

Vehicles exceeding this size must take an alternate route, such as Edmonds-Kingston ferry.
