Motorcycle crash injures two, closes highway for 2 hours

Two people were injured in a motorcycle wreck Sunday afternoon about 27 miles south of Forks on U.S. Highway 101.

Michael Walthrop, 42, of Ocean Shores was operating the motorcycle going north on Highway 101 where the road curves to the left.

The crash prompted closure of both lanes of Highway 101 for about two hours.

Walthrop and his passenger, Roxie Moreland, 48, of Ocean Shores continued straight and left the road to the right, a news release from the Washington State Patrol stated.

The motorcycle crossed the fogline, and the pair stopped in a ditch.

Both were ejected from the motorcycle.

Both were wearing helmets.

Walthrop had minor back pain and was transported to Forks Community Hospital.

Moreland had a fractured right arm and leg and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she was listed in satisfactory condition on Sunday night.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected as contributing factors to the crash.

Speeding was the primary cause of the crash.

Walthrop could be cited for second degree negligent driving, the release stated.
