JOYCE — A man riding a motorcycle lost one of his legs below the knee Saturday as his motorcycle hurtled past a stop-sign post, according to the State Patrol.
The 20-year-old man from Silverdale, identified as Daniel Ray Stoner, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The wreck occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on state Highway 112 near Lyre River Road.
A trooper at the scene said Stoner apparently was riding too fast to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle went off the westbound shoulder, through a ditch and jumped over Lyre River Road.
The rider’s leg struck the signpost at the corner of Highway 112 and Lyre River Road, and the leg was severed as the motorcycle and rider continued into trees past the intersection.
The bike struck several trees before coming to a rest on its side. Stoner was hurled from the motorcycle and landed a few feet away from the bike, a 2009 Yamaha YZF-R6, the State Patrol said.
