SEQUIM — The Clallam County chapter of MoveOn.org will hold a community forum on how the influence of big corporations and lobbyists in Washington, D.C. has affected the lives of local citizens from 7 to 9 tonight.
The forum, “Waking up From the American Dream,” will be at the Guy Cole Convention Center at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave.
It will begin with a half-hour panel discussion.
That will be followed by an open forum in which people are asked specific questions, such as how has this affected you, and then invited to tell of ideas for change, said Richard Gray, organizer.
“The meat of the program is for people to speak out about what they are concerned about and what they think we can do about it,” Gray siad.
Ed Evans, retired KIRO-TV news bureau chief and pastor of the United Church of Christ, will host the panel.
Panel members include Eddy Hayes, organizer for Service Employees International Union Healthcare 775 NW; Bill Kildall, of the Clallam County chapter of MoveOn.org and facilitator of Healthcare Now; Ben Greuel, public lands organizer for the Sierra Club; and Virginia Shogren, an attorney specializing in patent, intellectual property, trademarks and copyright law.
Topics to be discussed include “bailing out big banks,” “industrial strength health care lobbyists,” “energy giants and climate change,” “Supreme Court blesses corporate contributions.”
