DUNGENESS — Nash’s Organic Produce is planning an expansion in the new year.
The farming operation, which grows scores of crops on some 400 acres across the Dungeness Valley, will soon begin renovating the former Dungeness Tavern at the northern end of Towne Road, about a block north of Nash’s Farm Store, outreach coordinator Kia Armstrong said Friday.
The building will become the new home of the farm store, as well as a place to find out more about local products, she added.
The existing Nash’s Farm Store, at 1865 E. Anderson Road about four miles outside the city of Sequim, is a compact outlet for Nash’s produce and a few other items from organic growers across the state.
It’s open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and can be reached at 360-683-4642.
The new place, at about 3,500 square feet, will have ample space for many more products — including bulk foods, Armstrong said, and a lending library of books and materials on natural foods, farming and health.
“We’re going to offer workshops and classes, and people will be able to rent the space to teach their own classes,” she added.
Armstrong envisions the new store as a community resource center, and said she’s hoping for a spring opening date.
