The National Park Service’s 11th annual national historic landmark photo contest is under way and open to professional and amateur photographers.
The contest, “Imaging Our National Heritage,” encourages people to use their cameras to capture the meaning of a national historic landmark in a photo.
Among the 24 landmarks in Washington are three on the North Olympic Peninsula — the Port Townsend-based schooner Adventuress, Fort Worden State Park and the city of Port Townsend.
Others include the Port Gamble Historic District in Kitsap County, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Paradise Inn at Mount Rainier National Park, Fireboat No. 1 in Tacoma and the Fort Nisqually granary at Point Defiance Park.
Participants may enter one image per landmark and up to 10 images total.
Images must be submitted through a Flickr photo group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/2010nhlphotocontest/.
More information and contest rules are online at www.nps.gov/history/nhl/2010photocontest.
Entries will be accepted through Sept. 10.
