PORT TOWNSEND — About 200 gallons of marine diesel fuel spilled into Port Townsend Bay while an engineering officer was transferring fuel from one tank to another on the guided missile frigate USS Rodney M. Davis, the Navy said.
The spill occurred about 7:45 p.m. Friday.
Because of the weather and tidal conditions, no cleanup was necessary.
Navy spokesman Jeri Robinson said the spill dissipated within a couple of hours.
The ship was returning from a six-month deployment for training.
