BANGOR — The Navy has scheduled three public meetings next month in Port Ludlow, Poulsbo and Seattle on its plan to build a second weapons handling wharf for Trident submarines at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor on Hood Canal.
The Navy says a second wharf is needed to load and unload ballistic nuclear missiles.
The Navy is preparing an environmental impact statement for the project.
Hearings are scheduled June 23 at Poulsbo, June 24 at Port Ludlow (from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Port Ludlow Fire Station 31, Training Room, 7650 Oak Bay Road) and June 24 at Seattle.
Eight Trident submarines are based at Bangor.
