NEAH BAY — Surrounded by about 500 friends and family Ruth Claplanhoo, the oldest living Makah, officially celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday afternoon.
But it wasn’t really her birthday.
Claplanhoo’s birthday was March 15.
She didn’t celebrate then because she was in a one-year period of mourning for her sister, Isabell Ides, who died in June 2001 at the age of 101.
With the period of mourning over, she finally celebrated — and Neah Bay residents made it a bang up celebration.
