NEAH BAY — Former Makah whaling captain Wayne Johnson plans to hang up his harpoon.
Johnson said Wednesday that he is fed up with ongoing battles over the tribe’s right to whale.
“I’m sick and tired of the environmentalists pulling us into it,” Johnson said Wednesday inside a federal courtroom in Tacoma.
Johnson’s comments followed a morning hearing before U.S. District Court Judge Franklin D. Burgess on whether to grant a temporary injunction to halt all Makah gray whale hunts.
Johnson, 49, said he is resigning from the Makah Whaling Commission this week.
