NEAH BAY — Middle school children returned from winter break Monday to find their new school completed after more than two years of construction.
The school, named after Luke and Ada Markistum, who donated the land in 1932, was expected to be ready last May.
Wet weather held up installation of flooring.
Workers were able to complete the flooring on Saturday.
“It was just never quite dry enough to get it done,” said Cape Flattery School District Superintendent Gene Laes.
“But today seeing all of the children in the school, it was well worth the wait.”
About 52 children attend middle school in Neah Bay.
The new school features five classrooms, a large library, a multimedia room, a multipurpose room and a gymnasium.
The new building includes telephones and computer hookups in each classroom.
