NEAH BAY — Nearly 300 people gathered Thursday to remember the life of a centenarian regarded as a “Makah jewel.”
Ruth Emily Claplanhoo, the oldest living member of the Makah tribe, died Monday in Neah Bay at age 100.
“We have lost a great Makah,” Pastor James Kallapa said during the afternoon service at Neah Bay Assembly of God Church.
People filled the seats and stood against the wall during the hour-long service, singing along with some of Mrs. Claplanhoo’s favorite songs and laughing at anecdotes of her life.
