A state document outlining budget items for Puget Sound water quality protection between 2003 and 2005 requests year-round funding for a rescue tugboat at Neah Bay.
Public comment on the draft is being sought through Aug. 30.
Though Neah Bay is more than 90 miles west of the Sound, the 17-member Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team views the tug as essential to the region, team spokeswoman Mary Getchell said Tuesday.
In the 116-page plan, which the Legislature reviews when setting the state budget, the team notes that “major coastal spills also have the potential to heavily oil Puget Sound.”
